June 1st, 2010 is the NEW final date for health care professionals to be in compliance with Section 114 of the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act also called the Red Flag Rules.  After June 1st any organization who does not have in place a written Identity Theft Prevention Program, to the specification of the regulation, runs the risk of fines and penalties that can be as much as $2,500 per consumer.  This is according to the Enforcement Policy Statement issued by the Federal Trade Commission shortly before the original deadline of November 1st, 2008, and reinforced by a letter of response to the American Medical Association in which the FTC reinforces the fact that all health care providers must comply.   On May 1st, 2009, the FTC extended the Delay in Enforcement until August 1st. On July 29th, the enforcement was delayed again until November 1, 2009, and on October 30, 2009 the enforcement was delayed until June 1st, 2010.ad More
